Passport’s Pay for Parking App Launches in Gainesville

PassportParking® brings mobile payment technology to parking

Gainesville, FL –  The City of Gainesville today announced the launch of the PassportParking® mobile application. The app is powered by the global leader of mobile payments for parking and transit, Passport, serving cities and universities throughout North America.

Parkers will no longer have to carry coins or cash to feed the meter – they can simply download the free smartphone app to manage their payments.

Drivers can now take advantage of the PassportParking app and pay for metered parking on their smartphones by adding a debit or credit card.  Gainesville joins a growing movement across the nation to provide technology to residents and visitors as they move in and around cities. With the parking payment app, users can also:

  • Monitor parking sessions
  • Extend time remotely
  • View payment history
  • Receive email receipts

The parking app will initially be available to make parking payments at over 400 parking meters throughout the Downtown, Midtown and Innovation District areas.

“Passport was a clear choice for our drivers, having built success in many cities across the country.  We are excited to launch this technology and know that our residents and visitors will enjoy this convenience,” said Trish Everitt, parking operations supervisor for the City of Gainesville.

“As a Gator who called Alachua County home for years, we couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with the City of Gainesville on this new technology initiative,” said Khristian Gutierrez, chief revenue officer at Passport. “As mobile payment technology continues to be a part of our daily lives, it’s no surprise that the city will want to digitize the parking experience for its residents and visitors. Our goal is to take the stress and inefficiency out of parking through our innovative mobile payment platform.”

Passport powers the parking apps for large cities like Chicago, Toronto, Boston, Portland, and Westminster UK. The PassportParking app is also available at the University of Florida campus.

Drivers can download the free PassportParking app from the App Store and Google Play. Users can also manage their parking online at ppprk.com.
