The fancy tech pilots use to keep your flight turbulence-free

When we think of flight turbulence, we think of those sudden movements that wake us up mid flight or knock our magazine off our laps. We don’t necessarily think of the amount of money turbulence causes every year. The real number: $100 million. Turbulence can cause passenger injuries, plane damage, and flight delays. Previously, pilots relied solely on weather reports pre-flight, however, today pilots have access to completely digitalized weather information to keep flights turbulence free. Now, pilots can utilize real-time weather via their tablet device. For example, Delta created Delta Flight Weather Viewer, which provides live turbulence forecasts and observations to reduce the amount of turbulence.

Mobile ticketing lifts ridership for the better

The transit industry is transforming and innovating. The real game changer? Mobile ticketing. As mobile ticketing gains popularity, the transit industry is reaping the benefits. Ridership numbers are increasing due to the functionality of mobile transit apps that provide riders with the ability to plan, track, pay, and manage their entire transit experience from their smartphone. Since convenience is key and mobile ticketing is giving it major precedence, “[while] choosing your mode of transportation, you naturally feel more comfortable selecting a method of you have knowledge of and control over”. As mobile transit technology gains momentum, users are having more control and immediacy over their transit experience.

Transport operators still wary of Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the ability for anything with an on and off switch to be able to connect to the Internet or to one another. Although many companies are excited at the potential of IoT, many companies are still wary at the idea of what it entails. For transport operators, the IoT is a concept that is still not completely understood by the operators. Transit technology brings a newfound abundance of data to providers, which can either be misread or not interpreted at all. Previously, “owners made decisions on a prescriptive basis according to the limited knowledge that they possessed regarding, among other factors, roads and infrastructure. Thanks to the IoT, they have now moved to a reality-based and data driven environment”.
